You are not alone

There are so many people that live with debilitating pain each and every day. It seems as if there are more and more of us all the time.

I live with severe Peripheral Neuropathy, I have chronic pain 24/7. It may not be severe all the time but it is most of the time. But one thing is for sure, I cannot remember when the last time was I was not in pain. Anyone living with chronic pain knows how it not only affects us but it affects everyone around us.

There are ways to help cope with the pain. It does not matter what kind of pain, you are in, it is nice to know you are not alone. Chronic pain can be very difficult to cope with on a daily bases. So I hope that this Hub will help you find comfort and help with dealing with your pain.

Managing Pain Can Be Very Difficult

It seems as though getting the right pain relief is very difficult. I have been back and forth to different doctors for the past 6+years. Either they want to under medicate or over medicate. There is no happy medium for pain relief.

I don't want to turn into an addict but, cannot seem to get around being medicated. I have started studying natural remedies but to be honest it is hard to find anything that helps with nerve pain. My doctor tells me to stay away from herbal remedies because of the amount of medications I do take.

But to be honest I have gotten much worse since I have been treated with traditional medicine. So, I am looking for alternatives.

Anyway, I have found a few things that have helped me or are suppose to help so I thought I would share. Just wanted to note I am not a medical professional. This article is intended for information only; not to take the place of medical advice or treatment.

Vitamin B with folic acid is suppose to be very good to help repair damaged nerves. I am now on 4 a day, 2 in the a.m and 2 in the p.m (of course talk to your medical professional before using). I have not noticed any change yet but it took me many years to get in this shape so it will probably take a lot of time to get any results.

Very warm baths is also great, I spend a lot of time in the bathtub with Epsom salts and lavender. The Epsom salt helps draw out impurities that are in your body. The lavender helps you relax.

Drinking lots of water helps flush out your system this is good whether you have neuropathy or not. I have read many times that distilled water is good because it grabs onto the bad stuff in your system and helps flushes them out.

If you can handle it, drinking unfiltered vinegar you can get from natural health stores (not the regular white or cider we see at the grocery stores) will help rid your body of impurities and that are in our food, toiletries, smoking, water and in our environment

The best way (for me anyway) to take it is a tablespoon or so in a glass of apple juice, twice a day.

Also, even if you are not diabetic (I am not) you should cut down or out the sugar in your diet. This is a hard one for me because I use a lot of sugar in my coffee and I have read many times that artificial sweeteners are not good for your nervous system. I did purchase some vegetable glycerin to sweeten my coffee and it is okay but kinda expensive.

Stevia is another great one. It is a natural plant that comes from Africa. It is all natural and of course a bit expensive but it takes less of it to sweeten that it does sugar.

Surround yourself with happy positive people. It will help lighten your mood and take your mind off of your pain. Laughter is a wonderful thing!

Join a support group if you have one in your area or online.

Pace yourself, let your body tell you when it is time to slow down and take a break from the everyday responsibilities. I stop in my tracks sometimes and put my feet up and try and relax. You need to take care of yourself because if you don't you will not be any good to anyone else.

On the days you don't feel well take it as easy as possible.

Read and educate yourself about your condition no matter what it is. As they say: 'Knowledge is power".

Let's Not Forget How Stress Can Reek Havoc on Your Health

Stress and your health go hand in hand. If Let's face it, it is almost impossible to avoid stress in our lives. If you deal with a lot of stress it will make any kink of pain worse. Try meditation (very easy to do). Yoga is another good one and deep breathing exercises works wonders. When you learn the technique of deep breathing you can feel the stress and tension release. I do this all the time and it takes very little time to do and it can be done anywhere at any time.

You can Google the keywords and find a lot of information. Many of these programs are free to start.

I hope you have found a lot of useful information on this Hub. I wish you all the best!

If You Feel That You Need to Sign up For Social Security Disability Then do Your self a Favor and Check out Disability Digest.

So many times when you are eligible for disability you will be turned down. So I hired a firm that handles just disability cases. You know what I should have just thrown $5,000 out the window, they did so very little, and what they did do I could have done myself if only I had known about the disability digest. The thing about the disability attorneys that take your case and get paid when you do, they get a percentage of your money. So, they are not going to do anything to help you get approved faster because the longer it take the more money they make.Besides that they have so many clients they do not know your name and you are assigned to a case manager. At least this was my experience but have heard many other similar stories.

Then just after getting approved for disability I was fortunate enough to find the disability digest. I still get a lot of useful information, things that I would not know if not for the digest. Also you can find out how to get grants from the government for building a business, housing expenses and much more.

I really believe I would not have had to hire a worthless attorney and I probably would have gotten my approval must faster and saved a boat load of money!

So whether you have applied and are still waiting for approval, have already hired a lawyer (hope that is not the case) or have already been approved, or are just considering applying for it, you will find that the disability digest is full of free very useful information.

I Would Like to Start an Online Support Group

Is there anyone that would be interested in an online support group? I wanted to start one in my region but I feel more people can benefit if it is online.A lot more people could be reached through the internet.

The exciting thing about a support group for chronic illnesses is that we can share so many things like, encouragement, daily living tips, how to cope. Share success stories, Help inspire one another.

So many people are just existing and not living. So let us all start living our lives to the fullest.

No matter how well meaning and helpful our friends and family try to be, unless you are in our positions it is hard to understand, what challenges we face in our daily lives. Things that others take for granted we sometimes struggle with.

Now if you have read any of my writing you know I am big on the Free Disability Digest. So if you have considered getting disability or are already receiving it the Disability Digest would be an asset. But it would not be required to join our group.

If You Vote "YES" for an Online Support Group

If you vote "Yes" for an online support group, please leave a comment on the bottom of the page. I am really interested in starting one up. We could share our struggles and triumphs. Help one another with coping skills.

Lea,

I am sorry to hear that but I sure can empathize with you. You need to speak with your doctor about this. If he is not a pain specialist he may not want to up your dose. If that is the case ask him to refer you to a pain specialist. I know that now I am on 3, 10 mg percocetes (dont think I spelled that right) LOL and an Fentanyl patch which is very strong not to mention Lyrica. I know my pain just keeps getting worse, I feel like a drug addict. But with out it, I would be in constant agonizing pain. With nerve pain (I was told anyway)that it cannot be taken away completely. So when I am miserable I think about how much worse it really could be.

Hope it all works out for you.

I have Fibromyalgia and a bulging disc in my cervical spine (which I was told is arthritic). I have only been able to get relief from narcotics, but my doctor has had me on the same one at the same dose for the past 6 years, leading to very limited pain control. I also deal with extreme fatigue, which really limits my quality of life. It is very frustrating.

Jan

I know it is hard to deal with everyday. But it sounds like your husband has a wonderful wife to support him. In that he is very fortunate.

As for the medication I get sick to death of always being "drugged" as I call it. I am trying something new and I am putting a lot of hope into it. I have started a hub page about it but right now, not sure how well it is going to work. I keep telling myself to be patient it took me a long time to get in this shape so I should not expect miracles in the first 30 days.

Good Luck to you and your husband, I wish you both well.

Living with intractable pain such as that from neuropathy is extremely hard. Thank you sharing your experience with us. You have given light to those in pain that they are not alone.

Thank you so many times for your words. My husband has neuropathy due to a spinal chord injury and he cannot believe what his life is like now. With pain and strong medication every day he is not the same and cannot live his life in the same way as he used to. My heart breaks every day for him. It is a comfort to know there are people like you out there that have a simular experience. Blessings to you, Jan
